February 19, 2009 - "Postcard From Brugge" - This photo was shot in Brugge, Belgium in 1998. I was fortunate to work and live in Europe in the late nineties. Recently, I have been working with pictures taken during that time. This photo was scanned from a color print negative, post processed and cropped, I think the square crop worked out pretty well. My wife had a square matting that needed a new photo. I would not have gotten to the square crop without being forced to "in the box" thinking:) The original photo can be viewed at

Brugge is a photographers delight and also has several wonderful art museums.
From Wikipedia "Bruges got its city charter on July 27, 1128 and built itself new walls and canals. Since about 1050, gradual silting had caused the city to lose its direct access to the sea. A storm in 1134, however, re-established this access, through the creation of a natural channel at the Zwin. The new sea arm stretched all the way to Damme, a city that became the commercial outpost for Bruges."
